About Lower Body Lift
A lower body lift is a major body contouring procedure designed to address loose, hanging skin and fat after substantial weight loss. The surgery removes redundant tissue circumferentially around the abdomen and waistline, the so-called belt area, which is why it is also called a 360-degree belt lipectomy. The lift typically tightens the lower abdomen, the outer thighs, the hips, and the buttocks together, restoring a smoother lower-body contour and improving comfort with clothing and movement.
This 360-degree approach addresses both aesthetic and functional concerns. Excess skin folds can cause hygiene issues, recurrent rashes, and limit mobility. Removing them helps everyday comfort as much as appearance. For post-bariatric patients in particular, a lower body lift is often the most impactful step in lower body contouring surgery once weight is stable.
Suitable candidates are healthy adults whose weight has been stable for several months, ideally twelve to eighteen months after bariatric surgery or major weight loss. Smokers should stop weeks before and after surgery. Untreated diabetes, anaemia, nutritional deficiencies, or cardiac issues need to be addressed first. During consultation, Dr. Agarwal reviews your medical history, examines skin laxity and contour, and explains the planned scar pattern and recovery timeline.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and takes around four to six hours. Excess skin and fat are removed circumferentially, the buttocks are reshaped, and the outer thighs are lifted. Incisions are carefully sutured, and scars are placed where clothing or underwear can hide them. Drains are typically used for several days, and most patients stay two to three nights for monitored recovery.
Recovery is the most demanding part of the journey. A compression garment is worn for several weeks. Walking begins the same evening to reduce clot risk, but full recovery takes time. Light desk work resumes around three to four weeks, and full activity at about three months. Final excess skin removal lower body results emerge as swelling and bruising subside over six to twelve months. Long-term outcome depends on stable weight, hydration, exercise, and a balanced diet.
