About Lower Body Lift

A lower body lift is a major body contouring procedure designed to address loose, hanging skin and fat after substantial weight loss. The surgery removes redundant tissue circumferentially around the abdomen and waistline, the so-called belt area, which is why it is also called a 360-degree belt lipectomy. The lift typically tightens the lower abdomen, the outer thighs, the hips, and the buttocks together, restoring a smoother lower-body contour and improving comfort with clothing and movement.

This 360-degree approach addresses both aesthetic and functional concerns. Excess skin folds can cause hygiene issues, recurrent rashes, and limit mobility. Removing them helps everyday comfort as much as appearance. For post-bariatric patients in particular, a lower body lift is often the most impactful step in lower body contouring surgery once weight is stable.

Suitable candidates are healthy adults whose weight has been stable for several months, ideally twelve to eighteen months after bariatric surgery or major weight loss. Smokers should stop weeks before and after surgery. Untreated diabetes, anaemia, nutritional deficiencies, or cardiac issues need to be addressed first. During consultation, Dr. Agarwal reviews your medical history, examines skin laxity and contour, and explains the planned scar pattern and recovery timeline.

The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and takes around four to six hours. Excess skin and fat are removed circumferentially, the buttocks are reshaped, and the outer thighs are lifted. Incisions are carefully sutured, and scars are placed where clothing or underwear can hide them. Drains are typically used for several days, and most patients stay two to three nights for monitored recovery.

Recovery is the most demanding part of the journey. A compression garment is worn for several weeks. Walking begins the same evening to reduce clot risk, but full recovery takes time. Light desk work resumes around three to four weeks, and full activity at about three months. Final excess skin removal lower body results emerge as swelling and bruising subside over six to twelve months. Long-term outcome depends on stable weight, hydration, exercise, and a balanced diet.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is a lower body lift safe after weight loss surgery?
Lower body lift is a safe procedure when performed once weight has been stable for many months and overall health is optimised. At Kayakriti the operation is done in a fully equipped theatre with a qualified anaesthetist. Risks include bleeding, infection, seroma, scar issues, and clot formation. Careful selection, anti-clot precautions, and structured aftercare keep complications uncommon.
How long is recovery from lower body lift surgery in Lucknow?
Light desk work resumes around three to four weeks. The compression garment is worn for six to eight weeks. Heavy lifting and gym training are deferred for around eight weeks. Full activity returns at about three months. Final body reshaping results emerge over six to twelve months as swelling settles and scars mature.
How visible are the scars?
A circumferential scar is unavoidable and runs around the lower trunk. We design its position so it sits below underwear and swimwear when standing. Scar care, sun protection, and silicone-based products help the line fade from pink to a thin, paler mark over six to twelve months. Some scar widening can occur in areas of tension.
Can a lower body lift be combined with other procedures?
Yes, in selected cases. A lower body lift can be combined with a medial thigh lift, breast surgery, or arm lift, but combined procedures increase operating time and recovery demands. Dr. Agarwal will plan a safe sequence, sometimes staging the operations across several months for safety and easier recovery.
Will the result last long term?
Lower body lift results are durable when weight remains stable. Significant weight gain can stretch the skin and affect contour. After bariatric surgery, maintaining a balanced diet, vitamin support, hydration, and regular activity helps preserve the contour. We schedule structured follow-up to support long-term outcome and detect any concerns early.
