About Medial Thigh Lift

After bariatric surgery or substantial weight loss, many patients are left with loose, redundant skin in the inner thighs that does not retract on its own. A medial thigh lift is a body contouring procedure designed to remove this excess skin and fat, giving a tighter, smoother inner-thigh contour. The skin redundancy can also extend to the lower abdomen, mons pubis, and buttocks, sometimes causing chafing, rashes, irritation, or even infection within the deep skin folds.

The extent of sagging is classified as mild, moderate, or severe in the medial thigh region. Mild deformity may respond to liposuction alone. Moderate deformity needs an excisional procedure to remove the loose skin. Severe deformity often requires a combination of skin excision and lifting, with significant undermining to redrape the tissue. Liposuction is added to the procedure when fat is also a component, which helps achieve a smoother contour overall.

Suitable candidates are healthy adults whose weight has been stable for several months, ideally twelve to eighteen months after bariatric surgery. Smokers are asked to stop weeks before and after. Untreated diabetes, anaemia, or significant medical issues need to be addressed first. During consultation, Dr. Agarwal examines skin laxity, distribution of redundancy, and overall health, then explains the incision pattern (short or extended), the role of liposuction, anaesthesia, downtime, and an itemised written estimate.

Before surgery, Dr. Agarwal makes preliminary surgical markings on the skin to be excised. General anaesthesia is administered by a qualified anaesthetist and intensivist. Three incision patterns are used depending on the extent of correction: a short groin-only incision, a longer pattern extending down the inner thigh, or a combined approach for severe cases. Excess skin and soft tissues are removed carefully, lymphatic vessels are preserved, and the wound is closed with absorbable sutures and skin adhesives.

Recovery requires patience. Initial swelling and bruising are normal and gradually settle. A compression garment is worn for several weeks. Walking starts the same evening to reduce clot risk. Most patients resume desk work in two to three weeks, and full activity around six to eight weeks. Final inner thigh lift surgery results emerge over three to six months as scars mature. Long-term outcome depends on stable weight and a healthy lifestyle.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is medial thigh lift surgery safe?
It is a safe procedure when performed on patients with stable weight and good overall health by an experienced plastic surgeon. At Kayakriti the operation is carried out in a fully equipped theatre with a qualified anaesthetist. Risks include bleeding, infection, seroma, scar widening, lymphatic disturbance, and clot formation. Careful selection and structured aftercare keep complications uncommon.
Where will the scars be after inner thigh lift surgery?
Scars depend on the technique used. A short groin-only scar is hidden in the inner-thigh crease. Longer patterns extend down the inner thigh and are visible when wearing shorts or swimwear. We design the position to be as discreet as possible. Sun protection and silicone-based products help the line fade over six to twelve months.
How long is recovery from a thigh lift in Lucknow?
Most patients resume desk work in two to three weeks. The compression garment is worn for six to eight weeks. Heavy lifting and gym training are deferred for around six to eight weeks. Bruising and swelling settle over three to four weeks, and the final cosmetic thigh lift result becomes apparent over three to six months as scars mature.
Can liposuction be combined with the thigh lift?
Yes, often. When fat is also a component of the inner-thigh redundancy, liposuction is added to the procedure to give a smoother contour. Mild deformity may respond to liposuction alone. Dr. Agarwal will assess your skin and fat distribution during consultation, and plan the combination most suited to your anatomy and goals.
When can I have a thigh lift after weight loss surgery?
We usually recommend waiting twelve to eighteen months after bariatric surgery, once weight has been stable for several months. Operating on a still-changing body produces unpredictable results and may need revision. Stable weight, good nutrition, and adequate skin laxity make the inner thigh lift contouring more predictable and durable.
