Every area of Reconstructive, under one roof

Reconstructive surgery is concerned with rebuilding parts of the body affected by injury, surgery, infection, or congenital differences. At Kayakriti, our reconstructive practice covers nerve injuries such as brachial plexus damage, AV fistula creation for dialysis, pressure sore management, and a range of other complex problems. Each plan is built around the patient's specific anatomy, comorbidities, and functional goals rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Brachial plexus injuries illustrate why timely specialist input matters. The brachial plexus is a network of nerves originating in the neck and supplying the shoulder, arm, and hand. Forceful stretching or pulling, often during road traffic accidents in young men, can compress, stretch, tear, or even avulse these nerves from the spinal cord. The result may be weakness, numbness, or loss of movement that varies with the level and severity of injury.

Patients may notice an inability to lift the arm at the shoulder or elbow, weak grip, or difficulty holding objects after an accident. Lack of awareness sometimes delays referral to a plastic and reconstructive surgeon. If meaningful recovery has not begun within about three weeks of injury, focused diagnostic studies become important to characterise the injury pattern and guide decisions about observation, nerve transfer, grafting, or tendon-based reconstruction.

Reconstructive surgery is a long-term partnership rather than a one-off operation. Pre-operative planning, careful surgical technique, structured rehabilitation, and patient education together determine the eventual outcome. At Kayakriti, we coordinate with neurologists, physicians, and physiotherapists where needed, and we discuss expected timelines, realistic goals, and alternatives openly so that patients and families can take informed decisions about their care.
