About Breast Lift

Mastopexy, commonly known as breast lift surgery, is a procedure that uplifts and rejuvenates sagging breasts. It addresses loose skin, lowered nipple position, and a flatter upper-pole shape, restoring a firmer, more youthful contour. Many of our Lucknow patients consider mastopexy after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss, and a smaller group after natural ageing-related changes. The procedure does not significantly change breast size on its own; it focuses on shape and position.

Breast sagging, medically known as ptosis, can result from ageing, gravity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and heredity. Severity is graded from mild (grade 1) through severe (grade 3), depending on how far the nipple has moved relative to the breast crease. The grade affects the chosen incision pattern: minimal-scar techniques work for mild ptosis, while moderate or severe sagging needs more extensive lift patterns to reposition tissue securely.

Suitable candidates are healthy adults at or near a stable weight, non-smokers (or willing to stop), and ideally have completed their family. Mastopexy alone does not increase or decrease breast size; if you also want a fuller breast, it can be combined with breast augmentation, and if you want a smaller breast, with breast reduction. Dr. Agarwal will guide you through the journey, examine your anatomy, discuss expectations, and share an itemised written estimate.

Proper preparation is crucial. Before surgery, you complete blood tests, an anaesthetic check-up, and stop smoking and any blood-thinning medications as advised. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. Loose skin is removed, the nipple-areolar complex is repositioned higher, and the breast tissue is reshaped to give a firmer, lifted appearance. Operating time is around two to three hours, and most patients stay one night for monitored recovery.

Recovery is steady but predictable. A surgical bra is worn for several weeks. Walking starts the same evening, desk work resumes in seven to ten days, and gym training is deferred for around six weeks. Final breast tightening surgery shape and scar maturation continue over six to twelve months. Long-term outcome depends on stable weight, future pregnancies, and supportive bras during exercise; significant changes can affect the long-term contour.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is mastopexy safe?
Mastopexy is a routine procedure with a strong safety record when performed by an experienced plastic surgeon. At Kayakriti the operation is done in a fully equipped theatre with a qualified anaesthetist. Risks include bleeding, infection, scar issues, asymmetry, and altered nipple sensation. Careful patient selection, sound technique, and structured aftercare keep complications uncommon and outcomes predictable.
Will a breast lift change my breast size?
Mastopexy alone does not significantly change breast size; it reshapes and lifts the existing tissue. If you also want larger breasts, it can be combined with breast augmentation. If you want smaller breasts, it can be combined with breast reduction. Dr. Agarwal will discuss your goals during consultation and design a plan that matches what you want.
Where will the scars be after breast lift surgery in Lucknow?
Scars depend on the ptosis grade and chosen technique. Mild cases may be lifted with a circumareolar scar around the nipple. Moderate cases need a vertical lollipop scar. Severe cases require an anchor (inverted T) scar. We design the pattern carefully and use scar care, sun protection, and silicone products to help the line fade over six to twelve months.
How long is recovery from breast lift surgery?
Most patients return to desk work in seven to ten days. The surgical bra is worn for six to eight weeks. Heavy lifting and gym training are deferred for around six weeks. Mild bruising and swelling settle over two to three weeks, and the final breast reshaping result and scar maturation continue over six to twelve months as healing matures.
Will I still be able to breastfeed after mastopexy?
Many patients can breastfeed after mastopexy, especially with techniques that preserve the nipple-areolar blood supply and milk ducts. However, some duct disturbance is possible, and breastfeeding success cannot be guaranteed. If future breastfeeding is a priority, Dr. Agarwal will discuss techniques that better protect duct continuity during your consultation.
